Frequently Asked Support Questions
| Q: |
How can I include links to external
documents in my is/Modeler created HTML output? |
| A: |
There is a new Quick Metrix type called HTML Tag that you can
use. Place a Quick-Metrix on your model and double-click on it to
get the Quick-Metrix Properties dialog box.

Type the desired URL to link to in the Description field (no
extra spaces or line-feeds)
Type the text you want to appear on the model in the Label:
field.
Finally, select Attribute: HTML Tag, and click OK

| Q: |
Why can't I view the HTML source on the
pages created by the Save-As-HTML feature in version 5.0?? |
| A: |
If you are used to right-clicking on a page to get the page
menu, then choosing "View Source" you will not see the "View
Source" option, because the pages created by is/Modeler are almost
entirely graphic images.
To view the source HTML, use the browser menu commands (View,
Source in IE 5.0). |

| Q: |
The dialog boxes do not fit completely
within the screen. How can I make them fit? |
| A: |
If the dialog boxes do not fit within your screen, it is due
to one of two reasons:
- If your screen has a resolution lower than 640 x 480, the
dialog box will not fit. is/Modeler requires a screen with
resolution of 640x480 or higher.
- If your Window taskbar is set to Always on top, then
the bottom part of some dialog boxes may be behind the taskbar.
To fix this you can move the taskbar, or set the taskbar to
automatically hide whenever a window uses the space at the
bottom of the screen.
To set taskbar to hide automatically
Right click on any blank space on the taskbar.
Click on Properties.
On the Taskbar Options tab, make sure there is a check in
the box next to Auto hide.
Click on OK
To make taskbar reappear, move your cursor to the bottom of the
screen.

| Q: |
How do I access a Subprocess Window or dialog
box? |
| A: |
The Subprocess Window is accessed by double-clicking on the
bottom half of the Subprocess graphic object. An alternative way to
move between activities and subprocesses is to use the menu option
Window, and Open, which will bring up a dialog box listing all
available Subprocess Windows. This is particularly useful if you
wish to access a window several levels deep.

The Subprocess dialog box is accessed by double-clicking on the
top half of the Subprocess graphic object, or by clicking once on
the Subprocess to select it, then use the menu options Edit,
Properties, or the keyboard shortcut Alt+Enter. |

Q: |
I'm getting a message stating that the
predefined report format can't be found. |
| A: |
First check that the predefined report formats have not been
deleted from your machine. If they have been deleted, you must
re-install is/Modeler. If they are still present, provide the
complete path name of their current location in the Standard Report
Location field in the Preferences dialog box, which is reached
through the menu items Administration, and Preferences. Be sure to
enter the complete path name exactly including all characters,
spaces, and capitalization. When you are finished, click OK.

|
| Q: |
Nothing happens when I select Print Preview
for a report. |
| A: |
Your default printer is not being recognized. Select Print Setup
from the File menu, verify that the proper printer is selected, and
click OK. |
| Q: |
My model costing information does not seem to
be correct. |
| A: |
You probably need to recalculate the model statistics. Select
Recalculate Now from the Administration menu or use the keyboard
shortcut ALT - =. When the model needs to be recalculated, the REC
indicator is displayed in the status bar. |
| Q: |
I have costing information in my model, but
the Subprocess or total cost is zero. |
| A: |
If the model costs involving Subprocesses do not appear to be
correct, check your rollup options. If you want sub-activities costs
to be reflected in the model statistics, be sure that the Rollup
option is selected for all Subprocesses up to the highest model
level. |
| Q: |
Attached Text fields for
Subprocess costs don't give me expected values. |
| A: |
At the parent level of a Subprocess, Attached Text for cost or
counted cost applies only to the information that is entered at the
parent level -- not derived information from the Subprocess details.
These fields are thus not affected by the rollup option that is
selected. There are "pass-through" cost and FTE fields available for
Attached Text and Quick Metrix that you can use for costs that are
rolled-up through the model. |
| Q: |
Does a model have to be split out before it
can be merged in? |
| A: |
You can merge any model into any other model -- you do not have
to create a split model first. It is recommended that you
familiarize yourself with all aspects of splitting and merging
before you undertake these operations. [and make backup copies?] |
| Q: |
I have created global volumes, but they do not
appear in my Connector dialog box. |
| A: |
First, verify that the global volume is a Custom Field of type
Frequency associated at the Project level. Open the Project
Information dialog box -- the global volume should appear in the
listing. Open a Connector dialog box and click on the radio button
next to the global volume option. Click on the pull-down menu and
select your global volume from the listing. Specify the percentage
of the global volume to complete the information. |
| Q: |
Can I use is/Modeler to manage version control
of my models? |
| A: |
is/Modeler has several features that lend themselves nicely to
version control:
Quick Metrix boxes at the bottom of each page of your model can
include Model Last Modified date and time fields, as well as
creation or current date and time. This will help control printed
copies of the model.
The model file name and the description field of the Project
Information dialog box can be used in conjunction to maintain
version control of the model file itself. After any amount of
editing simply update the description field of the Project
Information dialog box with appropriate notes about the current
changes, then choose File, Save As, and append or update the file
name with "As of 12/31/99 at 11:59 p.m." (indicating the current
date and time) and click on Save. |
| Q: |
How can I add second or third rows of free
text in the header or summary cells of my custom reports? |
| A: |
Click and drag the gray bar just below where you want to add
additional rows (either a body cell, or the footer cell) and move
the cell below down enough to make room for your extra rows. You can
then move your free text (or any other attributes) to create
multiple rows. You can also move body cells in this manner to change
the look of your report. |
| Q: |
What is the difference between cloning,
copying, and multiple occurrences of building blocks? |
| A: |
To understand the difference between cloning/copying and
multiple occurrences of building blocks, think of this simple
illustration: cloning or copying a building block is like installing
the same style window in several different houses; multiple
occurrences of a building block is like multiple windows installed
in one house.
Cloning and copying are synonymous in is/Modeler. Cloning a
building block creates a new, unique building block with qualities
similar to those of the original building block. Associated costs
add to the overall model costs. FTE counts may increase if labor
resources are associated with the building block. The bottom line
figures will probably increase when you clone or copy building block
items. Changing any of the properties of a cloned building block
does not change any properties of the original building block.
Multiple occurrences, on the other hand, are strictly for clarity
or emphasis. They are useful in keeping your models easy-to-read. As
to cost and FTE calculations, is/Modeler views all multiple
occurrences of a building block as a single building block. Changing
the properties of any one of the multiple occurrences of a building
block changes the properties of all of the occurrences of that
building block. |
