Installation

If you downloaded the demonstration copy from the internet, double click on the file you downloaded to begin installation.

If you have the demonstration version on CD-ROM, run setup.exe if you have Auto-Run disabled. Otherwise, the installation process begins automatically when you place the CD-ROM into your computer.

Follow the on-screen prompts.

Remember to re-boot your computer when the installation is complete.

Getting Started

Starting is/Modeler in Demonstration Mode

  • Start is/Modeler by selecting the icon on the Start menu or by double clicking on the desktop shortcut.
  • Click on the OK or Cancel buttons in the Password Needed dialog box to enter demonstration mode.
  • In demonstration mode all features of is/Modeler are fully functional except the save command. You will not be able to save models of ten or more steps.

Moving Toolbars

  • The first time you run is/Modeler, all of the toolbars will be stacked down the left-hand side of the screen, and all six palettes will be open, leaving little room for the modeling window.
  • To make more room, move the toolbars by grabbing onto their outer edges and dragging them to a desired location.

Turning-off Palettes

  • Next, turn off the palettes by clicking on the six palette buttons identified by a single-colored letter (A, S, C, F, R, and W).
  • Finally, maximize the modeling window (the one with blue grid in it).
  • Once you have arranged the modeling interface to your liking, is/Modeler will remember your settings.

Loading a Model

  • Your demonstration copy of is/Modeler comes with a few sample models to help you evaluate is/Modeler.
  • To open one of these models, select menu item File, then Open, and then select a model to open.

Model Navigation

  • When you open a model, the first thing you will see is the highest level window of that model. In the window you will see one or more icons.
  • Open the model titled ismodeler-icons.ism to learn more about the different types of icons.
  • Double click on any icon (including connector lines) to get the dialog box that houses the metrics specific to that building block type.
  • To drill down to a lower level, locate a sub-process activity block (the ones with a shadow on the right and lower edges) and double click on the lower half of the icon.

Report Formats

  • is/Modeler comes with seven pre-defined reports.
  • Proceed directly to a preview of the different reports, skipping the Report Writer Interface, by holding down the shift key while clicking on the menu item Reports.
  • The Report Writer Interface allows you to modify existing report formats or create new report formats.
